Salary Range: $83,000

Reports to: Dean, Students and Student Engagement

We are looking for an Associate Dean, Student Life for our Client in the Dallas area. This is with one of the largest community college systems in the state of Texas, which includes seven campuses located around the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Job Summary

The Associate Dean for Student Life is a forward-thinking advocate for student-centered success, holistic well-being, and a champion of intentional inclusion. As the Associate Dean, this person serves as a key bridge-builder across the institution in actualizing the mission of the College, supporting our strategic vision, offering guidance and support to the Student Life Team, and advocating for a holistic student experience. As the Associate Dean of Students this position oversees day-to-day student life on campus, working with the Student Life and students, families, staff, and faculty to help ensure a safe, vibrant, and seamless journey to graduation. The Associate Dean of Student Life is a highly collaborative and visionary leader who reports directly to the Dean of Students and Student Engagement. The Associate Dean will oversee student life and serve as a campus leader on issues of inclusion, equity, social justice, and diversity. This position will demonstrate significant experience in directing student affairs, a commitment to partner on initiatives that enhance holistic and inclusive student experiences, and personal qualities necessary to serve and enrich a thriving, student-centered campus.  The Associate Dean will oversee the following director of student rights and responsibilities, director of student life and director of student engagement.  The Associate Dean will develop and lead a team dedicated to cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment and to the success of all students, the Dean will provide leadership to student life and strengthen collaboration with other campus divisions.



Key Responsibilities

  • The Associate Dean of Student Life is responsible for the direct oversight and management of personnel, program assessment, budget management, policy formation, logistics, and strategic planning.

  • Implementation and leverage technology platforms such as Navigate and Maxient etc. to support the student care network.

The Associate Dean oversees:

o   Maxient

o   Navigate

o   Director, Student Rights and Responsibilities

o   Director, Student Life

o   Director, Student Engagement

  • Student Life programming of the College, including strategically planning, directing, and implementing co-curricular student initiatives and programs. This includes budgeting and allocating resources for Student Life; supervising full-time and student employees; assessing the effectiveness of the programs and services including identifying program goals, methods of assessment, criteria of success, collection of data, and use of data for continuous improvement.  

  • Establish a system for developing KPI’s outcomes and assessments and collecting assessment data for ongoing improvements.

  • Client's-wide programming and community partnerships.

  • Intramural sports programs, and Gymnasium facilities, including monitoring equipment status and coordinating repairs.

  • Client's Student Government at local, regional, and state level, including providing training and directing student government members’ travel and sponsors events.

  • New student organization program, including developing and providing officer training and risk management training to organization officers and members; working with organizations to develop outcomes and assessments; ensuring such conform to college policies; consulting with the Dean of Student Services in the appointment of faculty sponsors.

  • This position also oversees Student Conduct and works in collaboration with the Title IX Coordinator.

  • Represents the College on campus, in the community, and nationally in matters related to the student life experience regarding Client.

  • Develops, reviews, assesses, revises, and communicates student life policies and processes. Such policies and modifications are to ensure continuous improvement, use of best practices, and with an equity mindset.

  • Oversees the budget - directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems. 

  • Conducts regular assessment through the Council for the Advancement of Standards as well as through annual and programmatic assessment.

  • Serves as a member of the Student Life Leadership Team and active in the work of NASPA.

Required Qualifications :

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·       Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Client 

·       Skills in technological support and delivery of student programs and services; knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems; and proficiency in the use of Microsoft application software 

·       Experience leading or managing major change initiatives 

·       Employ and deploy data-informed and results oriented initiatives

·       Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges that arise as a result of Client’s current transition 

·       An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities  

·       Experience working with student support programs (counseling, threat assessment, health & wellness programs, etc.) as a CARE Team member

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees 

·       Experience working with special populations with differing needs such as DACA, International, foster care, homeless, first generation students, and veterans, etc. 

·       Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably diverse and complex college/university with a proven track record of enhancing quality, excellence, institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success  

·       Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline

·       An appreciation of shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds  

·       Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance student success units within the institution and with accrediting bodies

·       Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills 

·       Ability to work effectively with ethnic, cultural, and socially and economically diverse student populations 

·       Experience with Alternative Spring Breaks, Study Abroad, Student Leadership and Development

·       Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and programs; knowledge of student due process policies/procedures; knowledge and understanding of the current issues and trends in student affairs and student development 

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the  community network related to career and academic requirements 



Minimum Qualifications

·     Masters in related field

·     Three (3) years of progressively responsible in leadership

·     Demonstrable administrative and leadership experience

·     Current and valid Texas driver’s license required

·     Experience working with Student Life and Student Conduct, and Title IX

·     Experience supervising and supervising staff and interns

·     Experience working with and leading diverse student and staff populations

·     Experience managing budgets

·     Excellent interpersonal relations skills
